Planning: Preliminary Task

This is one of my first attempts with Photo Shop and In Design, I used Photo Shop to cut out the blank background from behind my subject (Mike) and I used In Design to add the coloured background and the text.

I am pleased with: The fact that I managed to do this myself was pretty good, I like the house style of this hypothetical magazine and how the colours match well with the subject of the image and the image of the company providing the magazine (my College, Saint Mary's.)

I can improve on: I need to work on steadying my hand for cutting out my subjects, if need be, I think I will also need to work on the different fonts available as Century Gothic is not the most professional looking font.

My Image: I only took a few images of my subject as time was limited and I thought I gained the right  shot; as this is a medium shot the conventions are kept to the standard of magazines in general. The lighting was easy to set up and the camera was brilliant to work with, I can't wait until I begin working on my own model (Sarah).

As proof that I actually took the below photos, this is me adjusting the lighting on my subject.

Here are the other shots, that didn't quite make the cut:

Above) To dark, poorly lit, little facial expression on subjects face.

Above) Partly blurred, to highly lighted to the left, general image looks uneven.

Above) Generally very good shot however legs are viewable and makes image a medium long shot, not keeping to the conventions.

Above) Subject moved just before the camera flashed.

Below is my roughly sketched attempt at the contents page for my magazine cover, it includes a masthead, a title for the page (Contents) images of the featured artist and other artists and people involved with the magazine, there is a long list of text, displaying the page names and sections. Each of these features fits with the house style of the magazine as displayed by the magazine front cover.
