As a case study I will be looking at these singer song writers - how they are represented, what their style is, how it reflects them as a person etc.
Ingrid Michaelson:
When looking at the way Ingrid Michaelson is dressed (in photoshoots and in concert) a consistant style of casual and "geeky" looking clothes feature. Bright colours in her clothes connote a fun and happy personality and the fact that, in her concert shots, she is playing her own instruments, indicates to the industry and the audience that she takes her career into her own hands and that she is a muscian first before a singer.
Kate Micucci:
Kate Micucci's style and representation is a little different; more femenine clothes are worn such as bright dresses but, facially, the artists doesn't appear to be overly serious (i.e. pulling funny faces etc.) Her sense of humour is also reflected in her EP cover (above this text) and in her songs. Again the artists is seen with her guitar or ukelele, reminding the audience that she plays her own music.
K T Tunstall:

K T Tunstall is represented slightly more serious than the previous arists; darker colours are used on the artist, more blacks and greys, while she is also in jackets, trousers and t-shirts. This could be connoting to the audience that she follows more into the rock genre however in each photo an acoustic guitar is present with the artist. Again reminding the audience and the industry, like Ingrid Michaelson and Kate Micucci, that she is a musician first before being a singer.
