Research: Representation of the Artist in the Magazine Genre

In this post I will look at branding and how that affects the way an artist is received by an audience and the industry. A good example of branding is the band Kasabian's new album, Velociraptor -

In there video, the first track on this album, the post production editing only allowed black, white and red to come through in the band. The footage also changed from straight monochrome to black and red, tying in perfectly with the image created with the album.

This is branding. In order to keep up the consistency of the artist, I need to keep the branding similar in all aspects of the artist, be in colour scheme in clothing, the genre of music, the interview text. I need to make sure that my artist is branded correctly. This leads me on to my artists Iconography, the way my artist looks and appears to the audience. In order to tie in with the genre of music, Acoustic Rock, I am going to represent my artist in a similar way to K T Tunstall and Ingrid Michaelson - for costume I will request that she bring three outfits; one, what she would wear to perform, two, her favourite dress/thing to wear, and three, what she is most comfortable in - I will use an image of the artist in outfit number three for the interview.
